GOOD ENOUGH? – OUR OWN PHILOSOPHY ON THIS
For some manufacturers, unfortunately, Quality Assurance still equates to, 'near enough is good enough’; while others may merely consider if it looks good enough then it’s OK and settle at that and, for non-safety products, for some, that may indeed sometimes be just about ‘OK’.
At M•F•M™, though, neither ‘near enough’ or 'looks good enough' or just ‘OK’ is ever going to be considered enough at all because the product we major in (and which many others nowadays copy the external appearance of) is a mobile step-stool – a safety related product - and so our aim is not just to achieve a bare pass certificate at the relevant product NORM but to constantly strive to improve upon our own best achievements so far which are, anyway, always very considerable in themselves, and this principle is applied to all our products.
Now in our fourth decade of continuous manufacture we have always worked to the highest formal international standards required for our class of product and our mobile step-stools are thus all certified accordingly; but for us, even that is still not 'good enough' because our long experience in the mobile step-stool field has taught us that the product build needs to be well in excess of the basic EN standards to cover every type of use (and even some misuse) that will be encountered at end user level and so - so far - over that period of time, we have now already made 19 real and positive changes to our original KIKALONG™ metal mobile step-stool concept and applied these improvements also on other metal and plastic models we have since introduced. And these were never changes just for the sake of change but genuine improvements which have brought real increased benefits, both to our distributors in terms of real saleable features and to all end users in terms of added efficiency, ergonomics, security and durability. These were not just changes forced on us by evolving regulation, either, but rather were made simply because we are always striving for perfection and looking for ways to do things just that little bit better.
It is true that all mobile step-stools will look quite similar, at a casual glance, because certain statutory dimensions and angles in the standard requirements of the EN 14183 –F NORM make this unavoidable, but this is only a skin deep impression and so many of M•F•M™’s beneficial improvements go quite unremarked to the untrained eye and it is also an unfortunate fact that many other mobile step-stool manufacturers - who are content just to scrape through the regulatory test and settle for ‘good enough’ – and relying on a ‘look-alike’ appearance to persuade the buyer – will undoubtedly benefit from the perceived and expected standard of excellence M•F•M™ have always set while trade distributors and end users who are not then getting the genuine article when buying these ‘look-alikes’ will be the ultimate losers when performance fails to live up to appearance and expectation.
